A.N: I wrote this for a prompt at the fic contest, the prompt was Angel unsurprisingly, it just seemed apt to write it considering my nickname. It never did get posted ^^; Well it’s getting posted now and I hope you like it, because I kinda do. I wrote it during NaNo.
Al didn’t have a religion, unless of course you counted alchemy but that wasn’t really a religion as such. He had read up on some of the old religions though and some of the ideas they had were kind of nice.
Like the idea of a Heaven. Somewhere nice that good people went when they died. A place that was whatever you wanted it to be. Somewhere warm and peaceful where nobody hurt and nobody had any reasons to cry. He hoped that if there was a real Heaven his mother was there. She had been really nice and kind and deserved to be somewhere peaceful.
Of course he had also read up on a place called Hell but he hadn’t really liked the sound of that place, even if the guy in charge had the same taste in decorations as his brother. He really hoped there wasn’t a Hell anyway because according to the books he’d read that would be where he and brother ended up, after what they had done no amount of making up for it would be enough to erase that sin from their souls.
Still, there was one thing he believed even if he didn’t believe anything else. He believed in Angels. He had met some after all. An Angel was a being of light, a being that always did good but knew how to punish the bad too. Angel’s were the right hand of God and protected all those worthy of protection.
Al had met plenty of them in his everyday life. He considered Lieutenant Hawkeye to be an Angel, she was always protecting everyone, especially the colonel. She was kind and good and still knew how to kick a bit of ass too.
He even considered Mr and Mrs Hughes to be Angels. They had looked after them when they really hadn’t needed to. They had accepted he and his brother into their family and had helped to remove a little of the darkness that lived in their hearts.
Even teacher was an Angel although he figured her to be one of the ones that liked the punishing of people a little too much.
But the one person he considered to be the ultimate Angel, the one person he thought was perfect and caring and took the best care of both he and brother and guided them in the right direction was Winry.
She was light and goodness and in his eyes was a true Angel. Al didn’t believe in religion, he had alchemy and science but when he saw Winry smile, when he saw her laugh, when he saw her go out of her way to fix brother’s arm or leg after one of his frequent fights, he sometimes had to wonder, because he knew she was an Angel and if Angels really existed then maybe some of the other stuff might be real too.
