A.N: This kind of hit me and made me write it. I tried to ignore it but it wouldn’t go away. I’m not sure it went where I wanted it to but it went somewhere… Let me know how crap you think it is. I've literally just finished it and checked it through once, I have to post it because it's making me but I need to get back to work so enjoy.

You knew this would happen the second you put in the paperwork but you can’t stay here any longer. It was fine while you could stay by his side, help him to the top but he’s almost there now, he doesn’t need you anymore and anyway, he has her. What use could he really have for you?
“Havoc, get in here.”
You can hear it in his voice, he’s angry but again you expected this. You enter the room, shoulders slightly hunched, you have every intention of leaving the doors open so he can’t get really mad but he has other ideas. He shuts the doors behind you before walking back to his desk to pick up the forms you filled in. He looks confused as well as angry and maybe even a little hurt.
“What’s this?” He waves the forms in your face.
“Transfer orders sir.”
“I can see that, why do I have them?”
“Because I’m the one requesting a transfer sir, it has to go through you.” You know you’re being evasive, you can’t help it, you just want to get this over with and leave.
“What I want to know Havoc, is why you’re requesting a transfer?”
“Because I would like to move commands sir.”
He sighs in frustration lowering his head for a moment and you take the opportunity to build up your defences. It would not do for you to flinch now.
“Why didn’t you speak to me about this?”
“I’m speaking to you about it now sir.”
“Havoc, if you do not give me a straight answer I swear I am going to burn you! Why do you want to move commands?”
“I feel that I will be more useful elsewhere sir.”
You watch him process this information, it’s not totally a lie but it’s not the truth either, you know he can tell that you’re hiding something he’s not a brigadier general for nothing.
“I’m denying your request until you can give me a straight answer.”
You didn’t expect this, you knew he’d argue and shout at you but you didn’t expect him to say no.
“I have given you a straight answer sir.”
“No Havoc, you haven’t. You’ve given me half an answer and the fact that you’re calling me sir and not chief is telling me more than you realise. Now give me a straight answer and I’ll think about approving your request.”
You don’t know what to tell him, you hadn’t planned for this. There’s nothing else for it but to tell the truth, or at least as much as you can.
“I no longer wish to serve in this command.”
“Why?”
“I feel that I can be…”
“Enough with that bullshit! Give me the real reason, I think I deserve that at least.”
“I no longer feel able to serve under your command.” You’ve given up, there was no way he’d have let you get away with anything but the truth and deep down you knew that.
“Why?”
“Because I no longer feel able to serve you.”
“Why?”
“Because watching you everyday without being able to touch you is torture.” You’ve said all you’re going to say, you turn to leave the room after taking in the shock on his face but you have to say one last thing before you leave. “Congratulations by the way.”
“On what?”
“On your engagement. I hope you’ll both be very happy together.”
You make it all of two steps before a hand grasps your arm. It squeezes tightly and you turn to look into confused onyx eyes.
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re engagement to Hawkeye. I’m sure you’ll be very happy together.”
“I’m not engaged to Hawkeye! What on earth made you think that I was?”
“I heard some people talking about it.”
You see the confusion turn to anger before he sighs and his face softens. He doesn’t loosen his grip though.
“Hawkeye is getting engaged to Armstrong, we’d been discussing how to go about telling the masses when we were in the cafeteria, some of the secretaries must have overheard. I must remember to have a little chat with them about their choice of gossip.”
Now it is your turn to be shocked. You went through all this for nothing and worse, he now knows.
“So Havoc, how long have you been watching me?”
You stay silent, you don’t know what to say anymore. You drop your head and stare at the floor.
“Because I’ve been watching you for a very long time.”
Your head whips up to stare at him, he’s smirking at you and you’re not sure what to do or even how to breathe anymore. His face moves closer to yours and before you can do anything his lips are covering your lips and you’re responding to it. You stand there together for what seems like hours but is really only minutes, joined together in a heated, needy kiss that you didn’t think would ever happen.
When he pulls away you notice his cheeks are flushed and he’s breathing just as hard as you are.
“Now, let’s hear nothing more of this transferring business. I don’t really feel like travelling all the way to Briggs the next time I feel the need to take you home with me. Oh, and by the way, you’re coming to my place after work.” He reaches up and kisses you quickly before turning and walking back to his desk. You can’t move, can’t process what has just happened, it’s all too much but one sentence brings you back to your senses. “You can go back to work now Havoc.”
“Yes chief.”
You turn and leave the room, your mind still reeling from the shock. You have a date tonight with the man you’ve been chasing after for so long. You’re going to his place and unless you’re really out of practice that can only mean one thing.
You don’t know how to process this, you hadn’t planned for it.
