Title: Life in verse
Pairing/Characters: Mostly Al & Ed
Rating: G (Nothing bad I can think of right now)
Warning: Really bad attempt at poetry!
Words: 535
Summary: Ed’s life in verse
A.N: I don’t know what I was thinking. I just came up with the first line, then a quick few verses and then it kind of ballooned out of control. I think I’ve added too much to be honest; it could more than likely cope with a few less verses and a lot less information. Started a really long time ago and finally finished in honour of National Poetry Month. It sucks, I know but I had a go at something new so I’m happy.

There was once a boy with golden hair
Whose life was never truly fair.
As a child he’d been quite sweet
His brother such a gentle soul to meet
Their mother loved them so very much
Their father didn’t keep in touch
He’d gone away and left them there
They didn’t know why and they didn’t know where
He’d walked out the door and said goodbye
No explanation did he supply
Their mother was full of sweetness and light
They loved her smile, always so bright.
They followed his path, his alchemic trade
Their skill was vast, the things they made
One fateful day his world had shattered
When to the floor his mother clattered
She fell ill, her time was short
But till the end, she fought and fought.
She said ‘goodbye’ and ‘please be good’
Her eyes then closed, his heart went thud.
She was his world, his brother's too
Now she was gone, what would they do?
She’d left them alone, the world can be cruel
But a desire in the child, her death did fuel
He chose his path, he knew what to do
To bring her back, to make her new
So as a child he planned and plotted
To create a human, his life allotted
To this end and while so young
He committed a sin, to the gate was flung
His leg, his arm, his life, his soul
His brother gone, no longer whole
The gate had taken a heavy due
Even more pain for him to go through
All he had wanted was to bring back his mother
But in her place there was another
Nothing human, it shouldn’t be real
On its body it had a brand and seal
It marked it out as not quite right
Something that he would have to fight
His brother was lost, his body was gone
He needed him back, he needed someone
So he offered his arm, in place of a soul
And gained back a brother who still wasn’t whole
At his side now was a metal brother
Who was quite unlike any other
Now just a soul attached to steel
Unable to touch, unable to feel
Together they travelled all around the state
Trying to find out how to reopen the gate
To return to them what had been lost
Was, in their eyes, worth any cost
Equivalent exchange was what they knew
But as time went on the doubt, it grew.
Was this truly how the world did work?
Or did something sinister behind them lurk?
They had people standing in their way
The seven sins down one path lay
In wait for them, their path to bar
The other path, well that held scar.
No matter which way they turned
Evil grew and evil learned
It beat them down and pushed them back
How much more before they’d crack?
The philosopher’s stone was what they sought
But would their efforts all be for nought?
Could they really regain their lives?
Or would they always be juggling knives?
Would their luck hold out until the end?
Would it break or would it bend?
If you really want to know
You’ll just have to watch the show.
