Drabble - The Darkness

Title: The Darkness

Summary: He fears the darkness, it chases him everywhere he goes.
A.N: In my head canon Al can’t cope with the memories and things that are put back in his head after CoS. Who could really? It’s just too much for his young mind to take. When I’m in a slightly dark place, so is my fic. I’m pretty sure none of you mind though.

He feared the dark.

It chased him, wanting to swallow him whole. He ran from it as fast as he could, screaming at it to go away and leave him alone.

But he couldn’t run forever.

He knew it would catch him eventually, how could it not? He screamed and screamed as the darkness came closer, clawing at his mind and reaching in to every corner consuming him.

His scream faded as the darkness finally enveloped him turning his world to absolute black.

Ed cried as he saw Al finally lose it.

He’d watched his brother battle the madness, thought he might actually win but he’d been wrong.

The Al he knew had gone, swallowed up by a darkness Ed knew only too well. He cried knowing that Al was screaming for help but knowing that the scream would never reach beyond the walls of Al’s own mind.

“I’m sorry Al, I’m sorry I couldn’t save you from this.”

Ed watched the door shut on the small padded room as Al was left alone with the darkness.

Scary :/ The shift into madness was so instantaneous - really brings home how easy it is to succumb. Our poor boys!

Sadly enough, I can see this actually happening. :( This could've happened in Brotherhood too. Al being suddenly OK after being restored was just one of several things that I balked at at the end. Al sits alone in utter sensory deprivation for years on end and then, BAM!, he's back in his body and all is right with the world??? The sudden rush of sight, sound, touch, memories, etc etc have no effect on him??? Uh, I don't think so. :/ BONES, this is what you call fail. :p
