FMA drabble - A time to say goodbye
Title: A time to say Goodbye
Word Count: 149
Rating: U
Characters: Just the one
Summary: Light goes off.
Warnings: Rusty writing
Author's Note: I didn’t want to let the FMA fic contest comm die without writing for the final prompt but I got busy and didn’t have time. This is sort of what I had in mind when I first decided to write it but, as with all things I do, it didn’t turn out quite like it should have. I was told I should post it here so here it is. Enjoy.
~~
The table was dusty, no more files covered it, no more unfinished work. The chair was empty, no colonel waiting to chew him out for his latest act of destruction. The room was silent and cold, no laughter from colleagues, no sign of life.
He took a final look, his eyes seeing the after images of people long since gone. He smiled. As much as he had complained when in this room it held happy memories for him too. Jokes with friends, precious moments that had pushed back the pain and hardships if only for a short time.
He breathed it in one last time before turning for the door. His fingers reached out for the light switch but paused as he glanced back over his shoulder.
“Goodbye old friends.”
Edward switched off the light, closed the door, and walked out of Central Command for the very last time.
