Drabble - IOU
Title: IOU
Pairing/Characters: Roy/Ed

Summary: Ed needs time to grow.
A.N: I know it’s not the feel-good fic you’d expect for Roy/Ed day but considering how I originally wanted to end this, this is feel-good. And anyway, it’s Angel fic, do you realise how rare that is >.< Anyway, this is literally just finished but I wanted to post something for 520 day so I apologise for any mistakes. Hope you all had awesome 520 days <3

Ed looked down at the sleeping man and began his internal debate all over again. He loved Roy, he really did, but he knew they couldn’t be together. Not right now any way. He still had a lot of growing up to do and he couldn’t do that while he was with Roy.
He placed a note next to the bed before leaning down and kissing the sleeping man on the lips. He ran one hand through Roy’s black hair slowly before pulling back, afraid that if didn’t stop there and leave now, he never would.
‘I hope you understand,’ he whispered to the sleeping form before turning around and walking out the door.

Roy woke slowly, reaching out his hand to Ed’s side of the bed but finding nothing there. He opened his eyes and looked across at the empty space, it wasn’t unusual for Ed to get up earlier than him. He listened out for sounds of Ed; the kettle whistling, the radio being on, but there was only silence.
Sitting up, he noticed a note on the bedside table. He picked it up and almost dropped it as if it had burned him. He read the scrawled writing and smiled a sad kind of smile.
Ed was gone. He’d left him. But what he’d left behind gave Roy hope. If the younger man had never intended to return he wouldn’t have left this note. Instead he would have left 520 cenz. With an IOU, Roy could be sure that Ed would return to him one day, all he had to do was wait and he was good at that.
